Japanese Surrender Sword
Surrender Sword of Vice Admiral Matomu Ugaki, Commander, Japanese Naval Forces of Hokkaido and North Honshu. Presented to the US Merchant Marine Academy by General Douglas MacArthur, October 18, 1945, "as a memento to the valiant service rendered by the sons of the Academy in our struggle in the Pacific."
The sword was mysteriously stolen from the Academy in the fall of 1971 and just as mysteriously, returned twenty years later in the fall of 1991.
